Independent developer Marcin Krzyzanowski today announced Notepad.exe build 1.4.1877, adding Go support to the native macOS code editor. Developers can now write and run Go alongside Swift, Python, and JavaScript in the same lightweight editor.
Notepad.exe is built for quick experiments and small tools. Go fits that workflow well: it is fast, compiled, common for command line tools and services, and often used for the kind of code people want to test without opening a heavier IDE.
"A lot of Go work starts as a small file: a CLI, a server experiment, a package test, something you want to run right now," says Krzyzanowski. "That is exactly where Notepad.exe should feel useful. Open a note, write Go, run it."
The Go update follows earlier releases that added Python, Linux support, JavaScript through Bun, and on-device coding intelligence. Notepad.exe keeps the same rule for each language: write code in a note, run it, and only add more structure when the work needs it.
For developers who move between small scripts, server experiments, and Apple platform work, the update reduces the need to keep switching editors just to try something quickly.
"The point is not to replace every specialist tool. The point is to make the first ten minutes of coding much faster."
Notepad.exe build 1.4.1877 is available now as a free update for existing users. New users can download the app at notepadexe.com. Paid plans start at $19.99 per year, with a $79 perpetual license also available. Students and educators can apply for academic access.
